TU Delft is the oldest and largest public technical university in the Netherlands. In the 2022 QS World University Rankings, it is ranked among the top 10 universities in the world for engineering and technology. The institution was founded in 1842, with the main aim of training civil servants. It expanded its research and teaching programme over time, becoming a polytechnic in 1864 and an institute of technology in 1905 – making it a university.
