SUMMER SCHOOL 2025
The 3rd European Summer School on Bio-Based Composites (ESBBC-3) is coming to Cambridge in September 2025, and you’re invited to be part of this exciting gathering of emerging and leading minds in the field of bio-based composites.
Organised in partnership with the University of Cambridge and hosted at the iconic St John’s College, this unique 2.5-day event is tailored for PhD students, post-doctoral researchers, early-career academics, and industry professionals working on sustainable materials and biocomposites.
The ESBBC-3 proudly features the SSUCHY-NEXT and UPWEARS projects — leading EU initiatives exploring circularity, functionality, and innovation in bio-based composite materials.

What to expect
ESBBC-3 offers a dynamic mix of formats to maximise knowledge-sharing, networking, and skill development:
Keynote Lectures from leading academic and industry experts
Masterclasses & Tutorials designed to deepen technical and interdisciplinary insights
Flash Presentations by participants (2–5 minutes)
EU Project Showcases: Highlights from SSUCHY-NEXT and UPWEARS, plus others
Hands-on Workshops on scientific writing, IP protection, biomimetic design, computational tools, and more
Networking Activities, including punting on the River Cam and college visits
Programme Themes
Five interlinked thematic sessions structure the ESBBC-3 experience:
Understanding Processing & Value Chains
Designing for Applications
Embedding Performance & (Multi)Functionality
Prospect of Computational and Data Science Approaches
Managing End-of-Life and Environmental Impacts
Each theme includes keynotes, masterclasses, flash talks, and collaborative discussions.
